Southern Illinois area walkers are getting set for the 8th annual Warriors of Hope Suicide
Awareness and Prevention walk. A suicide occurs every 12 minutes in the U.S. and is the 10th
leading cause of death. For every suicide, 25 more are attempted. N 2022, the highest recorded number of suicides occurred. The walk is scheduled for Saturday, September 20th beginning at 2:00 pm. at Cannon Park in Carterville, Illinois.

The approximate half mile walk raises funds to help increase public awareness about suicide.
and the need to fund prevention efforts. The walk will take place around the beautiful lake at
Cannon Park located at 120 N Greenbriar Rd, Carterville, IL 62918.

Before the walk, a ceremony will be held to remember all those lost with loved one sharing brief happy memories and creating a boutique of roses.

Following the walk, an art project will be created to remember those we’ve lost and the ones who remember them. This will be displayed for the next year in a local business until the next walk in 2024.

After the walk, a monthly support group meeting will be held the 2nd Sunday of every month. These meetings will also work towards the walk for next year. Sound Mind & Heart Christian Counseling is a local non-profit that developed and support this endeavor.

Donations may be made directly to the organization or in honor of a loved one.

Teams are welcome, and friends and family are invited to cheer on the participants, light refreshments, and information following the walk. This event will be held rain or shine!
