The Carbondale Police Department is now accepting applications for the Citizens Police Academy. This free program is designed to strengthen relationships between the police department and the community by providing an inside look at law enforcement operations and encouraging open communication.
Participants will learn about police department divisions, patrol procedures, traffic stops, investigations, and crime scene operations. The academy also offers an opportunity for citizens to ask questions, share concerns, and better understand the challenges faced by law enforcement. Classes will be held on 5 Wednesdays from 6 to 9:00 p.m. beginning
February 4th. All applicants will undergo a background check. Please note that participation in the Citizens Police Academy is not part of the hiring process for police officers. The Food Works Winter Farmers Market is an indoor farmers market located inside the Carbondale Community High School Cafeteria (new location 2025-2026 season!) It runs every Saturday from December through March from 9am to 12pm.The winter market is a staple in the Carbondale community, as it gives our customers access to fresh produce, locally sourced meat, dairy, eggs, and other handcrafted items when the outdoor markets close for the season. The market accepts cash, card and even SNAP payments.
