SIC Faculty Union Raises Concern Over Potential Cuts

Declining enrollment and possible staff cuts at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg have the Faculty Union worried about the school's future.

SIC Art Instructor Sarah Deneal says the college serves a remote part of the state, and further cuts could keep some students out of college altogether.

"We go all the way down this whole side of the state. They're driving 45, 60 minutes just to get to SIC. If they come to SIC, and find out that they don't offer the program, if they can afford it they'll go somewhere else. If they can't afford it, they may go nowhere at all."

The SIC Board of Trustees is considering staffing and program cuts in Art and Business.

A message with SIC was not immediately returned.
