Carbondale Crisis holds webinar on opposition to abortion in Southern Illinois

Religious leaders and politicians gathered to discuss opposition to abortion in southern Illinois on Tuesday.

Carbondale Crisis held a webinar to discuss taking action against reproductive health clinics planning to move to Carbondale and offer abortion services.

Cassie Walden runs the Pregnancy Matters crisis pregnancy clinic, which does not offer abortion services. She says her clinic is preparing for the change.

"We are making sure that we are able to help women in their time of need, so we are expanding our hours at our Carbondale location, we have hired our sonographer so we are available for more ultrasounds, for more pregnancy tests, and of course, even for the parenting families, for helping with the material support," she said.

Carbondale's proximity to nearby states with abortion bans is one major factor for clinics deciding to locate in Southern Illinois.

Other groups discussed efforts to oppose abortion, including sidewalk prayer and plans for a 40 Days for Life Vigil.
