U.S Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin condemns Republicans proposed Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

Republicans claim this bill will create new standards of care for reproductive healthcare physicians, Durbin fights back and states there is medical or scientific facts that back up these new standards.

He argues the bill will only make it harder for women to receive comprehensive reproductive healthcare.

"The goal of the bill that we will consider, introduced by the Republicans, is to target and intimidate reproductive healthcare providers and make it harder for women to access comprehensive and compassionate healthcare," Durbin said.

During his address Durbin quoted what the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said after the bill was passed through the House of Representatives last year.

"The offensively named Born-Alive legislation is another cruel and misguided attempt to interfere with evidence-based medical decisions being made my patients and their physicians," Durbin quoted. "Laws that ban and criminalize evidence-based care and rely on medically unsupported theories and misinformation are dangerous to families and clinicians. This bill negatively affects all obstetric and gynecologic care."

Republicans plan to bring this bill to a vote but Durbin cites there are already legal protections for infants born alive after a fail attempt of an abortion under the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002.

Durbin says Republicans would rather bring forth, what her considers, unneeded legislation than address the healthcare crisis that was unleashed after the Dobbs ruling.
