A professor in SIU-Carbondale's College of Agricultural Sciences has pleaded not guilty to the charge of Theft of Governmental Property.
The Jackson County State's Attorney says 39-year-old Jeremy Davis of Carterville is accused of stealing a polymerase chain reaction machine and a Nano Drop machine.
Theft of Governmental Property Exceeding $10,000 and Not Exceeding $100,000 in Value is a Class 1 Felony which carries a potential sentence of four to 15 years in prison. It is also a probation-eligible offense.
Davis not only entered a plea of not guilty, but he also waived his right to a preliminary hearing. A jury trial is scheduled for July 15th in the First Judicial Circuit Court in Murphysboro.
A final pretrial hearing is scheduled for June 4th.
