Sheriff Jeff Diederich says the business has been warned before

Williamson County authorities say they're investigating after one person was shot at a business in rural Carterville last weekend.

Sheriff Jeff Diederich says charges "are anticipated" after gunfire erupted at Club 262 on Samuel Road just after 3:30am on April 8.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they say they found a large crowd, and evidence of multiple weapons being shot - with damage to nearby buildings and vehicles, as well as one victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. That victim was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted for additional care - he is expected to survive.

Sheriff Diederich says this isn't the first time his department - and others in the area - has responded to reports of shots fired, nuisance calls, large crowds, and more. He says a search warrant also showed evidence of an unlicensed liquor establishment - including a full bar and point of sale system.

The Sheriff's office says in the past two years there have been more than 40 calls to law enforcement. Diederich says his office is working with the Williamson County State's Attorney's office in its investigation.
