A Cape Girardeau teenager is dead following a shooting incident this past weekend near the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge.

The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation and the Alexander County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the shooting, which took the life of 17-year-old JaZaria Hempstead.

The shooting occurred late Sunday morning when two occupants inside of a vehicle on the Illinois side of the bridge were found to have been struck by gunfire and were transported to an area hospital.

The other victim in the shooting was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Investigators have arrested 20-year-old Tyrese Tucker of Ullin for First Degree Murder.

Tucker is currently being held at the Massac County Jail.
