Police have arrested a suspect in connection with Sunday's deadly shooting in Mt. Vernon.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department says 26-year-old Jamaro Kemmerling of Mt. Vernon is charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender.

Police had arrested 22-year old Jerria Smith of Mt Vernon in the early Sunday morning shooting in the 600 block of South 15th Street. But, the charges against her have been dropped.

Mt Vernon police identified the victims as 20-year old Zomarrius Williams of Mt Vernon and 26-year old Demonta Woodward of Mounds. Police say both men died from injuries during the shooting that left five others wounded.

Authorities say this investigation is still in the early stages. Additional arrests and charges are anticipated.
