Carbondale police officers conducted a traffic stop Tuesday on a vehicle in the 300 block of East Oak Street for a traffic violation.

During the stop, officers located a loaded firearm inside the vehicle. Officers arrested Austin B Dedecker, 19 years old of Carbondale, Julius J. Word, 20 years old of Carbondale, and a 17-year-old juvenile of Carbondale, for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. After conferring with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, Dedecker and Word were incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail pending detention hearings. The juvenile, whose name is being withheld, was released to his parent.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 618-549-COPS.
