A 15-year-old has been arrested in Carbondale after police saw him with a firearm sticking out of his backpack.
At noon on Monday, Carbondale Police officers arrested the juvenile male in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane and recovered the firearm and some ammunition from the backpack.
The juvenile was released to a family member pending an appearance in court for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
In accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the name of the juvenile suspect will not be released.
