With weeks to go before Governor JB Pritzker's stay-at-home order is lifted, many are looking for ways to get outside and relax a bit. But social distancing makes that more complicated.

Mt. Vernon Assistant City Manager Nathan McKenna says the governor's order means playgrounds - including Mount Vernon's - are off limits.

“All the parks are available for people to use for walking, jogging stuff like that.”

He says all summer baseball leagues that would normally use the parks ballfields are canceled, but there’s one court still open.

“Tennis courts are available to use; we just discourage large groups using them.”

McKenna says if the order is lifted, they’ll be cautious about what will open.

“We’d have to be pretty confident that they can maintain any requirements that might be in place moving forward.”

The Aquatic Zoo will not open this season.
