As planting season begins the Illinois Department of Labor is urging both drivers and farmers to practice safety.
You're probably starting to see more farmers out on the roads and that can slow you down. But Department of Labor spokesperson Mike Matulis urges drivers to approach cautiously.
"Many of the accidents happen when farmers are trying to make a left turn into one of their fields and someone is passing, its a very common instance. So really just slow down a be patient. It doesn't take that much time for the farmers to get into their fields and its only a few weeks out of the year." Matulis said.
Matulis says drivers also need to remember that farm vehicle operators have limited rear visibility. Farmers should make sure they are well rested, buckled in properly and have the proper lighting on their equipment.
