The leadership at the Southern 7 Health Department has made the decision to relocate the Cairo Head Start building due to safety concerns for the children and staff.
Southern 7's Policy Council and the Board of Health decided it is unable to renovate the current building because estimated repair costs are over a million dollars. An exhaustive search is currently being conducted in Cairo to find suitable space to relocate the program.
Until then, Southern 7 Executive Director Rhonda Andrews-Ray says the children at the Cairo building will be moved temporarily to the Mounds and Egyptian Head Start sites.
Earlier this year, a professional building inspector evaluated the condition of the Cairo building and found a minimum of five, very significant structural defects including the roof, walls, and floor system.
