SIU Dedicates Richard "Itchy" Jones Stadium

Former SIU Baseball Coach Richard "Itchy" Jones throws out ceremonial first pitch at dedication of SIU's Richard "Itchy" Jones Stadium

Southern Illinois University Carbondale  will celebrated the grand opening of Richard "Itchy" Jones Stadium Thursday.

Jones, who's the winningest baseball coach in SIU history, was the guest of honor and threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the stadium. Thursday's event also featured the ribbon cutting for the Dan Callahan Clubhouse, which is newly renamed after the late Saluki coach who guided the team for 16 seasons.

Renovations include installation of AstroTurf, grandstand seating, press box, new dugouts, and lighting.

The Salukis play the first game at the new stadium Friday afternoon at 3:00p when they host the University of Illinois.
