On May 8th, 2009 a severe storm, known as a Derecho, hit southern Illinois with heavy rains and high winds, some of which clocked in at over 100 miles an hour. Many homes and businesses have fully recovered from the storm. However, the southern Illinois forest, is not back to "Pre-May 8th" conditions.
