ON THIS DAY in 1916 American oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller becomes the world's first billionaire.
The Fall Book Sale by Friends of the Carbondale Public Library will take place October 3 - 5 in the Brush Building next to the library. 405 W. Main St.
Most books are $1 (some specialty books are more, some are less)
Books of all kinds, books on CD, videotapes, records, some puzzles and games
Friday, Oct. 3 - 4pm to 6pm - Preview Sale for members only (become a member that evening for $5 per person, $10 per family - yearly membership)
Saturday, Oct. 4 - 8am to 3pm - open to the public
Sunday, Oct.5 - 1pm to 4pm - half-price sale

Visit the City of Anna Farmers Market Tuesdays from 7am to Noon in the East Davie Parking lot. A great way to support local farmers and vendors and keep your body healthy. Open through October. For inquiries contact the Chamber of Commerce at 618-833-6311. www.southernmostillinois.com

Save the Date for the 25th Annual Fall Gayla at The Phoenix Center, on Friday, November 7th from 6:00pm –10:00pm. This milestone event promises an unforgettable evening filled with celebration, entertainment, and community spirit — all in support of the essential programs and services provided by The Phoenix Center. Proceeds from the Fall Gayla directly support these life-changing programs and help strengthen LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. This year’s Gayla will feature dueling pianos ensuring a lively and interactive musical experience for all guests. Attendees can also look forward to a variety of fundraising opportunities, including a silent auction, live auction, and the always-popular baked goods auction, a community favorite tradition.
