Community Day at the SIU Rec Center is this Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Entry is free, but they ask for you to bring a nonperishable food item for the Saluki Food Pantry. Community members, faculty, staff and students can access all the amenities including the 15-foot-tall climbing wall, Olympic-size swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts, indoor pickleball courts, over 80 pieces of cardio equipment, three well-equipped weight rooms, two walking/running tracks and more. All ages are welcome, but those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Open swimming will be offered from 1-4 p.m. while the climbing wall and virtual fitness studio classes will be available 2-4 p.m. In addition, people who are not current Rec members will be able to sign up for one spring session of youth swim group lessons for the member rate during the event. Indie Lens Pop-Up Series Kickoff at Carbondale Public Library Sunday, January 18th, 2-4pm with The Librarians Film Screening and Discussion. The film is a documentary about librarians across the U.S. examining how book review policies are shaping their communities. Indie Lens Pop-Up is a neighborhood series that brings people together for film screenings and community-led conversations.
This event is free and open to the public.
