ON THIS DAY in 1952, The “Today Show” premiered with Dave Garroway & Jack Lescoulie on NBC-TV.

NAACP Carbondale Branch hosts a film screening of Money, Jobs & Favors: A Chicago Documentary. The documentary chronicles Citizen Bowen's extraordinary political life and legacy, offering a vivid, first-person account of Black political leadership, civic power, and history rarely told in full. The screening will be at the African American Museum in the University Mall on JANUARY 19th @ 5PM.

State Senator Terri Bryant is inviting residents across southern Illinois to help spread cheer this Valentine’s Day by participating in her annual Valentines for Seniors Card Drive.
Individuals, families or groups are asked to create or sign Valentine’s Day cards that will be delivered to local seniors, including those living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Cards can be dropped off or mailed to one of Senator Bryant’s district offices by February 6. Drop-off hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at her Murphysboro District Office on West Industrial Park Road and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 Monday through Friday at her Mt. Vernon District Office on Broadway Street. During business hours, cards should be placed in the marked mailbox inside each office. A small mailbox is also available outside for after-hour drop-offs

The City of Carbondale will hold its third annual National Day of Racial Healing – “At the Table” Dinner & Dialogue on Tuesday, January 20 at the Carbondale Civic Center. Observed nationwide on the Tuesday following Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the event is part of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation initiative. The evening will feature facilitated discussions aimed at reflecting on the history of racism, addressing inequality, and fostering community connections. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., with dialogue beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event is free, but registration is required.
