Javon Williams, Jr. celebrates with Avante Cox at Saluki Stadium

Although there were no Salukis selected in this past weekend's National Football League Draft, a pair of former Dawgs are still trying to live out their NFL dreams.

Javon Williams, Junior has been invited to the Washington Commanders free agent mini camp.

The Centralia native played 49-career games at SIU as a multi-purpose running back, receiver, wildcat quarterback and return specialist.

He accounted for 50 touchdowns as a rusher, receiver and passer.

Williams earned multiple All-American and All-Conference awards.

Avante Cox will be a part of the Baltimore Ravens free agent mini camp.

The Rochester, Illinois native led the Salukis with 46 catches and eight touchdowns during his senior season in 2022.

The second team all-conference selection caught at least one pass in all 46 games of his collegiate career.

There are currently five former Salukis on NFL rosters.
