The first of three current or former Salukis competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Current SIU swimmer Celia Pulido finished 7th in her heat and 21st overall in the women's 100 meter backstroke for Team Mexico. The top 16 advanced.

The 21-year-old had an exceptional season for the Salukis.

Pulido’s trip to the 2024 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championship was highlighted by a seventh place finish in the 100 yard backstroke. Her time shattered the SIU program record and was the fastest mid-major 100 yard backstroke ever.

Two former Salukis will compete next week for Team USA.

Deanna Price will make her third Olympic appearance in the women's hammer throw. She is trying to become the first American woman to medal in that event ever. Price will start in the preliminary round of the hammer throw this Sunday. The final round is August 6.

Raven Saunders, will also make her third appearance in the Games in the women's shot put. Saunders will compete in the shot put qualification round on August 8 with the final round set for August 9.
