The prestigious U.S. Marine Band, famously known as “The President’s Own,” will make a highly anticipated return to Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Shryock Auditorium.
This concert, scheduled for October 8, 2024, marks the band’s first performance at SIU since 1950, making it a rare and significant event for both the university and the local community.
Under the expert direction of Lt. Col. Ryan Nowlin, the U.S. Marine Band will present a diverse and engaging program as part of their 2024 coast-to-coast tour.
Founded in 1798, the band is the oldest continuously active professional musical organization in the U.S. and has performed for every president since John Adams.
Their performance at SIU is expected to showcase a broad range of musical styles, including traditional band repertoire, marches, contemporary compositions, and patriotic music.
Free tickets will be available online starting September 8, with a limit of four tickets per request.
Doors for ticket holders will open at 6:45 p.m., and open seating for standby attendees will begin at 7:15 p.m. Attendees are advised that large bags and backpacks are not permitted.
The concert is being sponsored by the SIU School of Music with support from the Fine Arts Activity Fee.
The School of Music, led by Christopher Morehouse, has expressed great excitement about hosting one of the world’s leading symphonic ensembles.
This performance offers a unique opportunity for the SIU community, area school music students, and the public to experience a distinguished musical event.
