Carbondale Mayor Joel Fritzler delivered his annual State of the City address Tuesday.
The mayor highlighted a number of accomplishments from the past year including upcoming improvements to the city's water system, improved street cleaning, being named a 2012 Most Progressive City by Ameren, and a number of new service sector businesses that have opened or will open in the near future. Specifically, Fritzler highlighted that a McAlister's Deli will open during 2013.
Fritzler says he's looking forward to the coming year with a new Tax Increment Financing District that will help with business development in the down-town area as well as the potential of establishing an entertainment district that would showcase and promote the city's 15 live music and entertainment venues. The mayor says he'll explore the possibility of creating an entertainment ticket tax or food and drink surcharge to help fund development of the downtown area into a friendly and inviting entertainment district.
