Molly’s Law” has two parts: one would change state rules regarding wrongful death lawsuits, and the second adds penalties to freedom of information act requests.

Murphysboro Republican Representative Terri Bryant introduced “Molly’s Law” back in February. She says no family should have to go through what Larry Young and his family have after the death of a loved one.

Larry Young has fought for years, demanding information from Carbondale Police, Illinois State Police, and others in the investigation into his daughter’s death. Molly Young died of a gunshot wound to the head in March of 2012.

The Illinois Attorney General’s Office issued a binding opinion earlier this year, ordering State Police to release the information.

“Molly’s Law” would increase penalties for government bodies that willfully and intentionally fail to comply with court orders, and also changes the statute of limitations for wrongful death cases.
