U.S. Census data shows 93 of Illinois’ 102 counties have lost population since 2010.
Illinois’ population dropped by 100-thousand people between 2010 and 2018 and is one of just four states to shrink during that time.
Forecasters say the population loss across so many counties is a reflection of the state’s outlier status on many of the nation’s economic, demographic and financial measures.
In southern Illinois, Williamson County is the only county to gain population since 2010...adding just under 700 residents.
Jackson County had the biggest decline with nearly three-thousand people moving out. Alexander County is not far behind at just over two-thousand...which is 26-percent of its overall population.
