Governor JB Pritzker has named a retired southern Illinois police chief to the state's Prisoner Review Board.
Jeff Grubbs will join the board after serving nearly 30 years with the Carbondale Police Department, retiring as Chief in 2020.
Grubbs' appointment comes as the Prisoner Review Board faces tough questions about its makeup, with Republicans calling on the governor and Democratic leaders in the Senate to be more transparent about the nominations and confirmations.
His appointment must be confirmed by the Illinois Senate.
