The Illinois House has adopted a resolution which expresses support for the Southwest Connector Coalition's efforts to keep the expansion project moving forward.
Representative Paul Jacobs says the project involves an expansion of Routes 3, 127 and 154 from two to four lanes through Jackson, Perry, Randolph and Monroe counties.
The Pomona republican says the expansion will increase traffic from St. Louis to southern Illinois.
"This includes all of our wineries, our beautiful state parks and Shawnee National Forest. This will also increase safety, changing from two lanes to four-lane highways, not to mention the ability to move our products, manufactured in southern Illinois, over the highways rather than back roads."
Jacobs says this expansion is supported by regional unions, merchants, local governments and Southern Illinois University.
