A bill recommended by a cosmetology instructor at Rend Lake College has passed through the Illinois General Assembly.
State Representative Dave Severin sponsored the bill. The Benton republican says the instructor who has been teaching barber and cosmetology classes for over 30 years was looking to get a cross-classification into a different specialty teaching.
Severin says she was told, in order to get that new specialty, she would have to take the classes that she was teaching.
"If you're a barber instructor and you've been teaching for three years, if you're a beautician teacher and you wish to get your barber's license or a barber who wants to get your beautician's license, you get credit for the classes you have taught. You don't have to retake those for the other accommodation."
The bill now heads to the governor's desk.
