Former Illinois speaker of the house Michael Madigan's trial is set to start next month but a recent mistrial with former Illinois AT&T president Paul La Schiazza might make an impact

Former Illinois speaker of the house Michael Madigans trial following his 2022 indictment is set to start next month but a recent mistrial with former Illinois AT&T president Paul La Schiazza might make an impact.

Brendan Moore, state of Illinois government reporter with Lee enterprises explains La Schizza's alleged crimes on WSIU's Capital View.

"Mr. La Schiazza, his company basically indirectly paid one of speaker Madigan’s allies, former state rep. Eddie Acedevo, over a nine-month period where he did little to no work as a lobbyist and in exchange AT&T got favorable legislation passed out of the Illinois house, which obviously speaker Madigan controlled with an iron fist." Moore stated.

The jury had an 11-1 vote in favor of conviction but a unanimous vote is needed to make the final decision. The judge has yet to schedule a retrial for La Schiazza following this hearing.

As of now it is unclear whether La Schiazza's mistrial will be a set back for Madigan's trial set to start next month. Moore says this is to be determined as the judge wants to hear more information from both sides first.
