Illinois State Police officers from the eastern and southern parts of the state are working together to prevent dangerous driving behaviors along Interstate 57.

Illinois State Police officers from the eastern and southern parts of the state are working together to prevent dangerous driving behaviors along Interstate 57. Officers from Troops 7, 9, and 10 patrol the 257-mile highway while they watch for Illinois Vehicle Code violations, especially speeding.

Officers are also focused on Motor Carrier Safety Inspections for commercial vehicles, as over a quarter of fatal crashes involving large trucks happen on the Interstate. During this period of ISP enforcement, there were no fatal crashes, and only 5 accidents were reported.

As ISP's enforcement increases, so does the need for additional troopers. Effective July 1, 2024, new ISP troops will receive around $90,000 in paid compensation upon graduating from the Illinois State Police Academy.
