As the summer holidays begin, The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and several other law enforcement agencies are participating in a high-visibility “Click It or Ticket” campaign. During the campaign, participating law enforcement agencies will ticket seat belt law violators and arrest all kinds of impaired drivers.
This campaign comes in advance of the “100 Deadliest days of summer,” which historically marks an increase in fatalities between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
According to officials, last year’s Memorial Day weekend saw 18 crashes resulting in 19 deaths in Illinois. Official reports also estimated that seat belts saved nearly 21,00 lives since 1985.
