A Murphysboro man was killed in a rollover crash in rural Jackson County early Monday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Route 3 in the area of Big Lake Road.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation shows that 20-year-old Dalton J. McCarty was driving south when his car went off the left side of the road and flipped.

Investigators say McCarty was thrown from the car and died at the scene.

He was reportedly the only person in the vehicle.

Route 3 was closed for approximately 2.5 hours.

The sheriff’s office said their investigation into the crash is ongoing by their Traffic Crash Reconstruction team.

Members of the Jackson County Ambulance Service and Ava Fire Department assisted at the scene.
