The City of Carbondale will host an Honorary Street Sign Unveiling Ceremony on Friday, August 8, at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Oak Street and North Washington Street, where two new honorary street signs will be revealed.
North Washington Street (from East Main to East Fisher) will carry the honorary name “Elbert Simon Sr. Way”, and East Oak Street (from North Illinois to North Wall) will be designated “Kenneth ‘Kent’ Mason Way.”
These honors recognize the lasting contributions of Elbert Simon Sr. and Kenneth “Kent” Mason—two respected community leaders whose public service and impact have touched generations of Carbondale residents.
Honorary signs will appear beneath official street signs and will not affect mailing addresses.
