A woman being held at the Jackson County Jail has died a day after she was found unresponsive in her cell.

The Sheriff's Department reports 40-year-old Elizabeth Mumba of Carbondale died December 14th at a local hospital.

The day before, deputies found Mumba unresponsive in her cell. She was the only occupant.

Deputies and a staff nurse performed life-saving measures before the ambulance arrived.
