Fishermen on the Big Muddy River near DeSoto found a dead body around midnight.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department and County Coroner responded and the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe they have identified the body and family members have been notified.
Steps are underway to make a definite identification.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death. Foul play is not suspected at this time, but the investigation remains open.
