An early morning incident claimed the life of a pedestrian in Carbondale. Just before 3am Today (Friday), City of Carbondale police officers responded to West Walnut Street at Poplar Street regarding a multi-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Officers discovered a pedestrian had been struck by two passing vehicles. The pedestrian was immediately taken by ambulance to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment. The pedestrian passed away at the hospital as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash, and the investigation is currently active and ongoing.  It was determined that intoxication was not a factor related to the drivers of the involved vehicles.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the City of Carbondale Police Department at (618) 457-3200.
