CARBONDALE, Ill. – It’s not too late to get tickets to see country music star Sam Hunt perform at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Banterra Center on Thursday, Aug. 3, kicking off the return of concerts to a venue that has hosted big-name entertainers.

SIU Carbondale is part of Hunt’s Summer on the Outskirts Tour. The concert, which will include special guests Brett Young and Lily Rose, will start at 7 p.m. Fans can buy tickets at the SIU ticket office (the seats on the floor have been sold out).

Past performers at the Banterra Center include Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Elvis, Elton John, R.E.M., The Chicks, Boyz II Men, “Weird Al” Yankovic, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Yellowcard and many more.

“During my listening and learning tour shortly after my arrival here in 2020, alumni, community members and our own employees spoke fondly of the concerts they attended and how the performances enriched the campus and the community,” said Chancellor Austin A. Lane. “I am excited our university is bringing concerts back to the arena. Hopefully, the Sam Hunt concert will be the first of many to come.”

Hunt’s blockbuster debut album “Montevallo,” released in 2014, includes the hits “Leave the Night On” and “Break Up in a Small Town.” His second album “Southside,” released in 2020, included “Hard to Forget” and “Kinfolk.” Hunt has continued to release new music, including “23,” which reached No. 1 on country radio, and “Water Under the Bridge.”

SIU and Dunbar Music Group, along with New Country Z100, are bringing this event to Banterra Center. For more information about the concert, visit events.siu.edu/samhunt.php.
