Marion Fire Department responds to structural fire

On Tuesday March 19, around 10:30 a.m., Marion Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 701 North Vicksburg. While en-route, the FD was advised of two elderly people still inside the structure. Upon arrival, the back garage was fully engulfed with fire, and the rear of the home was also heavily involved and extended into the attic space.

Fire crew entered the front of the building with heavy smoke conditions and began rescue efforts. Fire crews quickly located and removed both victims and continued fire attack. No additional victims were located. The rescued victims were treated on the scene by paramedics, and both refused any further treatment.

The fire is currently under investigation by Marion Fire Department. No further information is available at this time. The Marion Fire Department was assisted by the Marion Police Department, Herrin Fire Department, United Ambulance, Ameren, and Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.
