The National Woman's Relief Corps, headquartered in Murphysboro, recently sent handcrafted memorial wreaths to over 55 Civil War-era national cemeteries established in southern states.

The Corps' Grand Army of the Republic Museum resides within exhibit space provided through the John A. Logan Museum.

The wreaths will be displayed at each southern state national cemetery through Memorial Day, continuing the tradition that takes place each year.

The memorial wreath project, born in the post-war years, was a historically significant way for Union veterans to remember their fallen comrades buried in southern states.

The General John A. Logan Museum and National Woman's Relief Corps Grand Army of the Republic Museum will be open on Memorial Day, from 1- 4 pm.
