A growing partnership and connection between SIU and the City of Murphysboro will take another step later this month when the Saluki men's basketball team and Head Coach Scott Nagy visit the newly renovated “Flynn Robinson Court” in the southern part of town.
Murphysboro Mayor Will Stephens reports the “Hoop with the Salukis” event will be an opportunity for kids in the neighborhood and throughout Murphysboro to come meet the players and the coach. Kids can play a game of “pig” or “horse” and watch the Salukis run a mini practice.
Flynn Robinson was born in Murphysboro and was on the SIU basketball team for one semester in the early 1960's. He went on to play with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers in the N-B-A.
City and SIU leaders renamed the court in his honor back in April. Robinson passed away in 2006 .
The “Hoop with the Salukis” event is scheduled for Thursday, September 26th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Bridgewood and Valley Ridge Housing Complexes in Murphysboro.
