Rep. Miller wants to ensure non-citizens do not receive SNAP

Republican Illinois Congresswoman Mary Miller has secured a proposal that would restrict eligibility for food stamps -- or SNAP -- to only green card holders.

Currently, several categories of non-citizens are eligible to receive SNAP benefits. Under Congresswoman Miller’s measure, these loopholes would be closed. The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that this proposal could save taxpayers up to $8 billion over the next decade.

In February, President Donald Trump issued an executive order to bar illegal aliens from accessing taxpayer-funded benefits.
