Due to the threat of severe weather this afternoon, Carbondale City Hall, located at 200 S. Illinois Avenue, is open to anyone seeking shelter and will close once the severe weather threat is over.

Scattered strong to severe storms may develop ahead of the main severe weather event. The leading scattered severe storms may develop as early as 1pm-3pm with the main severe weather event timeline predicted to come through Carbondale in the 2-5 PM time range.

● Storms may initially form as individual supercells that would pose a higher risk for strong tornadoes (EF2+) and very large hail (up to baseball size).

● The storms would likely form into a single line of storms posing a higher risk for hurricane force winds and tornadoes.

Be prepared for:

● A few strong/intense or longer-tracked tornadoes are possible.

● These would come either from individual cells or a fast-moving line that may develop.

● A line of intense damaging wind with embedded shorter lived but potentially significant tornadoes.

● The risk is similar across the entire quad-state

What to Do:

● Be alert through the day and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

● Have a plan to quickly move to adequate shelter.
