Firework training sessions to be held in Mt. Vernon

A consumer fireworks training certification card is required by Illinois law to purchase, possess or display consumer fireworks.

The Mt. Vernon Fire Department is conducting both in-person and online training for those interested in obtaining their certification card.

The free training will cover the law pertaining to fireworks, the City of Mt. Vernon ordinance, as well as the safe handling and display of consumer fireworks.

There will be a test at the end of the two-hour course that requires a grade of 100% on the safety questions and at least 80% on the knowledge of fireworks.
