A driver who stopped to check on an injured deer was struck by another vehicle on Sunday night.

Just after 11pm, Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 600 block of South Giant City Road for a report of a traffic crash.

Officers learned the driver of a vehicle pulled over to the side of the roadway and exited their vehicle to check on a deer that appeared to have been struck by a different vehicle.

While the driver was outside their vehicle, they were struck by a passing vehicle. The other vehicle also struck the victim’s vehicle during the crash.

The victim was taken to the emergency room by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The at fault driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Driving with Suspended Vehicle Registration, and Operation of a Vehicle Without Insurance.

A Civic Ready Alert was sent out requesting motorists to avoid the area during the investigation which lasted about 45 minutes. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Police Department.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
