Blood Drive

The American Red Cross is launching a crucial blood and platelet donation drive throughout July to address critical shortages during the summer months. Donors of all blood types, particularly those with type O blood, are urgently needed to ensure hospitals have an adequate supply for patients requiring transfusions.

During this event, every donation can potentially save multiple lives, supporting individuals facing life-threatening conditions and emergencies. Over a quarter of all blood products donated each year are used in critical care situations, underscoring the vital role of generous donors.

To encourage participation, the Red Cross has partnered with Universal Pictures for the release of TWISTERS, offering incentives such as Fandango Movie Tickets to donors throughout the month. Additionally, those who donate by July 14th will receive a special TWISTERS and Red Cross umbrella, while supplies last. As an extra bonus, donors will be entered into a drawing to win a 2025 Ram 1500 Big Horn.

Special donation opportunities include the 40th annual Donor Days at WPSD-TV in Paducah, Kentucky, where donors will receive a commemorative T-shirt and pizza courtesy of Pizza Inn. Various other locations across Kentucky and Illinois will also host donation drives, providing convenient options for community members to contribute.

To participate, individuals can visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS, or use the American Red Cross Blood Donor App to schedule an appointment. Donors must be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and meet other eligibility criteria specified by the Red Cross. High school students aged 16 or older (with parental consent) and adults up to age 75 can also donate.

Upcoming blood donation opportunities July 8-31

Specialty blood drive: Make an appointment to give at the WPSD-TV and Red Cross 40th annual Donor Days blood drive July 10-11 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm in Paducah. All presenting blood donors will receive a commemorative 40 Year Anniversary Red Cross Donor Days T-shirt, and the above incentives, while supplies last. Plus, starting at 11 a.m. each day, presenting donors will receive a slice of pizza from Pizza Inn. Special thanks to WPSD-TV and Bristol Broadcasting for their support of this annual drive.
