As students return to school, the American Red Cross is reminding families to review safety basics.
For younger children, that means knowing their phone number, address, and how to call 911 — and never talking to strangers.
Students walking, biking, or taking the bus should follow traffic rules, wear helmets, and stay visible. Drivers are urged to slow down, stop for school buses, and watch for children at crossings.
The Red Cross also responded to three home fires in Assumption, Centralia, and Marion last week, helping six people with emergency needs, shelter, and emotional support.
Assistance is available at 1-800-RED CROSS.
