The Jackson County Health Department is celebrating 75 years of service. Since opening in 1950 with just a $56,000 budget, it now operates with nearly $4.8 million and supports 48 staff members. Its Vital Records and Support Services team oversees budgeting, grant management, and issues birth and death certificates. Vital Records is the one program that interacts with the public and generates revenue through fees charged for issuing birth and death certificates. In 2025, the department issued thousands of certificates, documenting 2,075 births and 663 deaths in the county.
Those born prior to 1985 must contact the Jackson County Clerk’s Office to purchase a birth certificate. For records or details, call 618-684-3143 or visit jchdonline.org.
