WIC income guidelines changed

Southern Seven Health Dept.

With many families throughout this region struggling to make ends meet, and the concerns over the continuation of food assistance, Southern Seven Health Department has released new income guidelines for the Women's, Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program.

Southern Seven says the income guidelines have increased, allowing more families to qualify.

Now, a family of four can earn up to just under $60,000 dollars and still qualify for WIC. Qualifying families receive a WIC EBT card with food benefits loaded each month to spend at participating grocery stores in southern Illinois.

Anyone with child dependents up to age five can apply. This includes parents, grandparents, foster parents and step-parents, as well as women who are pregnant, postpartum or suffering the loss of a recent pregnancy.
