A Mt. Vernon man has been arrested on first degree murder charges from an incident last month in Gallatin County.

The Illinois State Police reports 20-year-old Demetrius Walker is accused in the murder of 45-year-old Nathan Dobbs, whose body was found on February 15 in the 100 block of McClernand Avenue in Shawneetown.

During the death investigation, investigators developed Walker as a person of interest. He was taken into custody on Friday by Mt. Vernon Police Department on an unrelated arrest warrant.

On Sunday, the Gallatin County States Attorney approved a charge of First-Degree Murder against Walker while he was awaiting bond on the unrelated warrant.

Walker remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail, awaiting extradition.
