A Cairo man has been arrested for First Degree Murder after a shooting incident last week in the Alexander County town.

The Illinois State Police arrested 42-year-old Samuel Lewis on Tuesday. He is currently in custody at the Tri-County Detention Center in Pulaski County.

On May 9, just before midnight, the Cairo Police Department requested the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation investigate a shooting in the 2400 block of Sycamore Street in Cairo.

ISP says 34-year-old Lafayette Woods from Cairo died as a result of the shooting.
